Frequently asked questions: DeWalt
Which DeWalt 18V cordless drill driver should you choose?
The drill driver is chosen according to the job. In models with hammer action, the impact is used to drill masonry and concrete, while for wood and metal rotation alone is enough. The type of battery, torque and speed also matter. Models listed as bare tool do not include a battery or charger, so they must be paired with a battery compatible with the 18V platform.
What do 18V and 54V mean for DeWalt batteries?
The voltage indicates the battery platform the tool is compatible with. The XR 18V series uses 18-volt batteries, while FLEXVOLT 54V technology powers more powerful tools, such as push mowers listed with this voltage. Ah indicates battery capacity: more Ah means longer runtime. Before buying, check that the battery is compatible with the chosen tool.
Which DeWalt discs and abrasives should you choose for cutting or deburring?
The cut-off disc is used to cut metal, stone or building materials, while the deburring disc is used to remove burrs and weld seams. Diamond discs are for hard materials such as concrete and stone. The diameter and bore must be compatible with the angle grinder. Fit the disc with the guard in position, wear safety glasses and gloves, and do not exceed the maximum speed marked on the disc.
Which SDS Max bits are needed for drilling concrete?
SDS Max bits are for demolition hammers and rotary hammers with SDS-Max shank, and are used to drill concrete and masonry. The diameter and length are chosen according to the depth of the hole: the listings show sizes such as 25 mm diameter with lengths from 400 to 920 mm. Check that the shank is SDS-Max, as it is not interchangeable with SDS-Plus. Where possible, use dust extraction to limit dust.
How do you choose a replacement chain or bar for a DeWalt chainsaw?
Chain and bar are chosen according to the bar length, given in cm, and the chain pitch, such as 0.325 inch LP. The codes beginning DZO indicate replacement parts compatible with the DCMCST635 chainsaw. Before fitting the replacement, check the chain tension, the oil level and that the blade is sharp. Work with the protective equipment required for cutting wood.
Which DeWalt tools should be used to demolish and cut on a construction site?
To demolish walls and paving, an SDS-Max demolition hammer is used, which breaks up concrete and masonry with its impact. For cutting thin materials there are jigsaws and cutters with a wheel blade. The demolition hammer produces vibration and noise: use ear protection, anti-vibration gloves and safety glasses. Before starting, check the cable or battery, the power supply and that the work area is clear.
Which DeWalt lawn mower should you choose for cutting a lawn?
DeWalt lawn mowers differ by type of drive and power source. There are push models, which are guided by hand, and self-propelled models, which move forward on their own. The XR 18Vx2 or FLEXVOLT 54V battery versions need no cable. The cutting width is given in cm, for example 53 cm, and is best chosen according to the area to be cut. Before use, remove objects and stones from the lawn.
