Torpedo Levels

Torpedo levels are short, compact spirit levels with the typical shape tapering at the ends, designed to fit where a long level cannot reach: plumbing and electrical installations, checks on pipes and profiles, work in confined spaces. They fit in a pocket or in the tool belt.

Types available

• Magnetic torpedo levels, to cling to pipes and iron structures;
• models with 360-degree rotating vial;
• torpedo levels with LED light for working in low light;
• pocket levels of different lengths, from about 16 to 25 cm.

The brands available are Stanley, Milwaukee, DeWalt and Stabila.

How to choose

The magnet is almost indispensable for anyone working on pipes and metal profiles. The rotating vial also allows angles and slopes to be read, while the LED helps in cellars and service ducts. A greater length gives more accuracy, a shorter one more practicality.

A torpedo level is often kept to hand alongside the long level, for jobs where space is tight, such as behind a sanitary fitting or on an exposed pipe.
