Frequently asked questions: Rubi
Which manual tile cutter should I choose for ceramic?
A manual tile cutter makes clean cuts in ceramic and stoneware tiles without using electricity. Choose the model according to the maximum cutting length and the tile thickness. For porcelain stoneware, check that the scoring wheel is suitable for this material. Clean the rail and the wheel after use to keep the cut accurate.
Dry or wet diamond blade: what is the difference?
Wet cutting uses water to cool the blade and reduce dust, and is recommended for long jobs and hard materials. Dry cutting does not use water, so it is more practical where you cannot wet the material, but it produces more dust. Choose the blade according to the material and the marking given on the data sheet.
Which diamond core bit should I use to drill tiles?
To drill tiles and ceramic, use diamond core bits, with water cooling or dry according to the data sheet. Tungsten carbide bits are another family of tools, for different materials. Choose the bit according to the hole diameter, the material and the machine you will use. Proceed with light pressure and do not force the bit.
What are diamond grinding plates and rough-grinding plates used for?
Diamond grinding plates are used to grind and polish concrete or stone floors, while diamond rough-grinding plates remove the uneven surface in the first stage. Always work from the coarsest grit to the finest. Choose the disc according to the material and the machine, and work with water to reduce dust.
Which tile vibrator do I need to lay tiles flat?
A tile vibrator settles freshly laid tiles into the adhesive, so that the surface stays flat and the adhesive bonds better. It should be used while the adhesive is still fresh, following the times given by the adhesive manufacturer. Choose the vibrator according to the format and weight of the tiles. Check the level after each pass.
How do I handle large-format ceramic on site?
For large-format ceramic, use suction cups for slabs and tiles and dedicated trolleys, which reduce the risk of breakage and back strain. Handling should be done by two people when the piece is heavy. Check that the surface is clean and that the suction cup holds before lifting.
Which mixers do I need to mix adhesive and cement for tiles?
To mix adhesive or cement, use electric mixers and mixing paddles, such as the Rubi ones for adhesive and mortar. The mixer should be used at low speed to avoid trapping air, which can weaken the bond of the product. Respect the rest times and the water proportions stated on the pack. Choose the paddle according to the volume to be prepared.
What protection should I use when cutting ceramic with an electric saw?
When cutting ceramic with a saw, you need eye protection, gloves suited to the work and a mask able to hold back dust, which may contain silica. Wear ear protection and work in a ventilated or wet area. Check that the blade is suitable for the material and that the guard is fitted.
