Soft jaws are the interchangeable jaws of the lathe chuck, in mild steel: they can be machined to size to grip the workpiece without marking it. Hard jaws are for very secure gripping.

What it is for

Used for clamping workpieces, in workshop machining of steel, aluminium and alloy parts and for turning metal parts, both roughing and finishing.

How to use it

Fit them in place of the existing jaws, observing the numbering and order, and tighten them with the screws. Soft jaws are bored to the size of the workpiece with the chuck closed on the working diameter, so that it is held perfectly centred. Replace them when the grip is no longer accurate.
