What it is

The rasp is a steel hand tool with a surface of coarse, widely spaced teeth, for roughing out wood, plastic and soft materials; it is flat, half-round or round in shape.
What it is for
Used for woodworking in the joinery shop and in woodworking, from cutting to finishing.
How to use it
Clamp the workpiece in the vice and grip the rasp with the handle firmly seated. Work by pushing forward with even pressure and easing off on the return stroke. Rough out with the rasp and then finish with the file or abrasive paper. Clean the teeth with the brush.
