Roof Access Windows
11 products
Roof access windows are side-hung openings designed to get onto the roof without external ladders: they are used for inspections, chimney and aerial maintenance, and gutter cleaning. They bring light and ventilation to the loft and serve as a way onto the roof. In this collection you will find the Fakro models.
What you will find
- Roof access skylights from the WLI series, in standard version, for roofs where a passage is mainly needed.
- Thermally insulated skylights FWP, with higher-insulation glazing.
How to choose
You need the size of the opening and the pitch of the roof, and you should check that the opening is large enough to pass through comfortably with tools. Then consider insulation: the thermally insulated version is useful when the loft is a lived-in or heated room. The flashing depends on the type of roofing (tiles, sheet metal or other); give the model code when ordering accessories or spare parts.

Frequently asked questions: Roof Access Windows
What are roof access windows used for?
Roof access windows are hinged openings that let you climb onto the roof without external ladders, for inspections, maintenance of chimneys and aerials or cleaning gutters. They also light and ventilate the loft. The collection includes the Fakro models, in the WLI, FWP and PWP series, as well as Faelux skylights.
What is the difference between the WLI skylight and the FWP thermally insulated skylight?
The WLI skylight is the standard version, suited where mainly a passage onto the roof is needed. The FWP thermally insulated skylight, in the models marked U3 and U5, has glazing with greater insulation, useful when the loft needs to be kept warmer or cooler. Choose according to how the loft is used and the local climate.
What measurements do I need to fit a roof window?
To fit a roof access window you need the size of the opening in the roof slope and the pitch of the roof, which must be checked on site. Also check that the opening does not interfere with elements such as gutters, beams or tiles. The manufacturer provides the frame dimensions, to be compared with the existing opening.
Which Faelux skylights with book-type or scissor-arm opening are available?
The Faelux collection includes skylights with top-hung, scissor-arm and tilting openings, and skylights with book-type opening. The type of opening depends on how you want to access the roof and the space below the slope. Check that the skylight suits the roof pitch stated on the sheet.
How do I get onto the roof safely from the window?
Before going up onto the roof, use a portable ladder that complies with EN 131 and fix it to the roof edge as the manufacturer indicates. If the roof is steep and a fall is possible, use a harness and a suitable anchor point. Do not go out when the roof is wet or frozen.
Do roof access windows need maintenance?
Roof access windows should be checked periodically: seals, hinges and glass must be in good condition to guarantee watertightness and regular opening. Clean the gutters and the edge of the skylight, and have the installation checked after strong winds or hail. Do not use the window as a support for your body.
Who installs roof access windows?
Sheet-metal workers, joiners, roofing technicians and building contractors install them, during the refurbishment or construction of the roof. Installation involves the roof covering, so it should be entrusted to someone who knows how to fit that type of roof. Work on the roof requires suitable equipment and safety measures.
