What it is

Makita DBM130 1,700 W electric dry core drill, for dry diamond core bits with an M18 × 2.5 mm connection and holes from 70 to 132 mm. It has a two-speed mechanical gearbox (0-1,500 and 0-3,000 rpm), an electronic switch with soft start, a control that keeps the speed constant under load, a safety clutch, overload protection and double insulation. It weighs 5.5 kg without the cable and is supplied with a side handle adjustable through 360° and a metal case.

A core drill is a machine that uses a diamond core bit to cut circular through-holes in concrete, masonry and stone; this category also includes stands and core bits.

What it is for

Used for core drilling concrete and masonry, for service openings and sampling and for drilling reinforced concrete, in hammer or rotary hammer mode.

How to use it

Locate rebar and services in the wall, then fix the drill stand with an anchor, vacuum pad or prop, or hold the machine firmly if it is used freehand. Fit the core bit, connect the water supply for wet cutting or the dust extractor for dry cutting, and start slowly until the bit has scored the hole. Feed with steady pressure without forcing, and work with an RCD, safety glasses, ear defenders and gloves.

Where it is used

  • Demolition
  • Building services
