Electric and Engine-Driven Pumps for Dirty Water and Wastewater

How to choose

Consider the flow rate, the head and the size of the solids the pump must let through. Then the power source: electric where there is mains power, engine-driven where there is not. For intermittent use an automatic float switch is worthwhile. The hose and the diameter of the fittings must be chosen to suit the pump.

For prolonged use it is best to choose pumps with a robust body and an impeller suited to wastewater, and to plan regular cleaning after every use in mud or sand.
