What it is
DeWalt DT4849-QZ extensions for flat wood bits are an accessory designed for use with flat bits for wood, extending their operating reach. Supplied as a single piece, they make it possible to reach greater drilling depths than the bit alone, while maintaining alignment during feed.
The extension is a rod fitted between the chuck and the bit to drill deeper than normal.

How to use it
Insert the extension into the chuck, tighten the bit well at the end and drill at reduced speed, keeping the rod in line. Check that the fitting is compatible with the bit. A long extension can vibrate: work with light pressure and withdraw the bit often to clear the swarf.
