MMA electrode inverter welding machine, Extra 170, Awelco

What it is

Single-phase inverter welder for coated electrodes (MMA) Awelco EXTRA 170 (code 50045R), from the brand's Hobby line. It runs on 230 V with an input power of 5.3 kVA (4.0 kW), adjusts the current from 30 to 160 A with 60 V open-circuit voltage and accepts electrodes from 1.6 to 4.0 mm: rutile E6013, stainless E308, basic E7018 and cast iron. It is supplied with an earth clamp and weighs 3.7 kg packaged.

A stick (MMA) welder is a power source that melts a coated electrode to weld steel, stainless steel and cast iron; it is used with electrodes, cables and connectors.

How to use it

Connect the earth clamp to the clean workpiece close to the joint, fit the electrode in the electrode holder and set the current according to the type and diameter of the electrode. Strike the arc by scratching the electrode on the workpiece and travel with a short arc and constant angle; at the end of the bead, remove the slag with a chipping hammer and wire brush. Store electrodes in a dry place and work with a welding helmet, gloves and welding clothing.
